Now shipped to its launch site after completing integration and testing is the SICRAL-1B satellite. Built by prime Thales Alenia Space, this satellite will provide strategic and tactical communication services for the Italian armed forces, with coverage in Italy as well as abroad, also enabling mobile communications with land, naval, and air platforms. The satellite will also provide NATO forces with UHF and SHF satcom capabilities, all based on a MoU signed in 2004 by the Italian, French, and British ministries of defence and the Atlantic Alliance.
