ITT Exelis And Chronos Technology Team Up To Run Interference

[SatNews] Satellites are vulnerable, now more so than ever, simply because of the dense populations in space.

ITT Exelis [NYSE: XLS] and Chronos Technology Ltd. have agreed to jointly pursue and develop product offerings for the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Interference, Detection and Mitigation (IDM) market.
Satellite-based positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) systems are vulnerable to many factors, such as signals jamming, resulting in potentially devastating system failures. The collaboration between ITT Exelis and Chronos Technology will allow both companies to respond to the IDM market by offering a set of complementary products and solutions.

"ITT Exelis is excited to collaborate with Chronos Technology to address this important challenge in the PNT field,” said Mark Pisani, vice president and general manager, Positioning, Navigation and Timing Systems, Geospatial Systems, a division of ITT Exelis. “The combination of our PNT heritage with Chronos’ timing synchronization and GNSS jamming detection capabilities makes this collaboration a perfect fit. Together with our PNT experts, we look forward to developing IDM solutions for customers that depend on PNT services."

"GNSS has revolutionized PNT over the last 20 years, but the IDM threat is real and the risks are increasing,” said Charles Curry, founder and managing director, Chronos Technology Ltd. “By joining with ITT Exelis, we will be able to provide practical solutions to the IDM market in the near future." He added, “At Chronos, we are thrilled to be working with ITT Exelis, the world leader in payload electronics for the GPS satellites. ITT Exelis has recognized the technological innovation driven by the GAARDIAN research project into GPS jamming and interference detection, and will bring cutting edge innovations to enhance the GAARDIAN platform. Our relationship with ITT Exelis will continue to develop Chronos’ ability to trade in global markets from our base in rural Gloucestershire.” For more than 37 years, ITT Exelis payloads and payload components have been on board every GPS satellite and have accumulated in excess of 500 years of on-orbit life without a single mission-related failure due to ITT Exelis equipment.
