U.S.A.F. FMV Mod Now Implemented

The U.S. Air Force’s Military Satellite Communications Systems Wing Operations Support and Logistics office has implemented the first phase of a system modification to increase Global Broadcast Service full-motion video feeds to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. The GBS is an extension of the Global Information Grid that provides high-capacity, one-way satellite transmission of video, high quality imagery, data and other information to warfighting forces. GBS supports the nation’s command centers and joint combat forces while in garrison, in transit and deployed within global combat zones.

Reacting to an urgent need from USCENTCOM to support increased mission requirements, MCSW/OSL worked closely with the stakeholders to develop the solution and plan for a phased implementation. They designed, tested and implemented the first phase in less than three months, assuring a fully supportable solution and smooth transition into operation. The fielding went according to schedule and GBS is currently meeting CENTCOM’s near-term operational requirements. A long-term modification to meet worldwide requirements is on track to meet a February 2010 fielding date.
