Philippine Police Push Out Their Own UAV

GIlbert Felongco, a correspondent for gulfnews.com, reports that police authorities in Makati and Manila have unveiled innovative solutions to address local security concerns using readily available materials and low cost technology.

The Manila police unveiled its version of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Manila's UAVs use methanol and have a range of approximately two kilometers. There are three versions, a 6-, 4- and two-footer, and five police officers are currenlty being trained to operate the craft. According to Inspector Jonathan dela Cruz, of the Manila Police Special Actions and Tactics Team, the department had initially purchased three such units for use in certain security sensitive fringes of the city such as the Isla Putting Bato and the Baseco Compound districts.
