Thrane & Thrane is ensuring the legion of Volvo Ocean Race fans around the world receive even better television coverage by extending its sponsorship offering to include land based EXPLORER 700 BGAN terminals. To celebrate its extensive involvement and the imminent start of the world's greatest ocean race, the Inmarsat terminal developer made an EXPLORER equipped Volvo EC90 Volvo Ocean Race Edition available to view at IBC 2008. Thrane & Thrane has supplied two new EXPLORER 700 systems, one for use as back-up communication at the Volvo Ocean Race headquarters near Portsmouth, England, and one for mobile use by the official Volvo Ocean Race Broadcast Team who will be present in every race stopover. The mobile terminal will be part of the team's efforts to ensure full coverage from land as the boats disappear over the horizon at the start of each leg and also during the in-port race that signals the start of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 in Alicante on October 4th 2008.
