[SatNews] Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) will be exhibiting at UTC Telecom 2011.
Todd Jolley, director of vertical market solutions, will also participate as a speaker. Mr. Jolley will join another satellite industry executive and an industry analyst in a session entitled, “How VSAT Technology Powers the Smart Grid Communications Network.” Attendees to the symposium will learn how, why, and where utilities should integrate satellite broadband into their smart grid communications infrastructure, focusing on the most useful applications.
The session will occur on Thursday, May 12th, from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. in Room 102B at the UTC Telecom 2011 event, which will be held at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA. “Most utilities don’t realize that the smart grid’s promise of ubiquitous, real-time information isn’t going to happen without satellite broadband in the mix,” said Jolley. “The smart grid communications network will require multiple layers of network transport technologies and standards, all merging around an IP backbone. Terrestrial and wireless broadband will undoubtedly provide much of this connectivity. But if you hope to bring scalable bandwidth, strong security and high reliability to the more network-challenged parts of the smart grid, or provide a fail-safe network backup, only satellite broadband provides the necessary combination of reach, speed and high availability today.”
