ViaSat Inc.and Lufthansa Technik AG are now offering an end-to-end, ground to cabin broadband IP networking and entertainment system for business aircraft. The two companies have signed an agreement to work together to provide a seamless, integrated system combining the
ViaSat mobile broadband satellite networking together with the
Lufthansa Technik (
LHT)
nice™ cabin management and in-flight entertainment system. The nice™ system is offered on a variety of aircraft through LHT channel partners and is standard equipment on factory-delivered
Bombardier Challenger 300 aircraft. The end result will be a complete IP network extension from the ground to every seat and networked device in an aircraft. The ViaSat airborne broadband service provides passengers onboard an aircraft with a convenient, office-in-the-sky experience that is on-par with the latest in home and office IP network products and services. In addition, ViaSat is planning a premium video service that is designed to enable airborne travelers to view their home TV channels or video library selections in the appropriate format for any display on the aircraft. Plus, recently Recently ViaSat announced plans to expand its
ArcLight® network to provide worldwide coverage by the end of 2009. With ArcLight networks already serving aviation and maritime customers over North America, the Caribbean, the North Atlantic, and Europe, ViaSat is working with maritime broadband service provider
KVH Industries to expand network coverage on a region by region basis. Coverage of the North Pacific will begin in December with coverage of Japan and Southeast Asia to follow shortly thereafter.
