It's a G'Day, Mate! Australian Satellite Expands to Include Kiwis

Australian Satellite services Just announced — VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a subsidiary of VT Systems Inc (VT Systems), in conjunction with Australian Satellite Communications Pty Ltd (ASC) has chosen the iDirect Evolution platform to implement a DVB-S2 network covering Australia and New Zealand. ASC will leverage the next-generation platform to introduce new services for existing and prospective customers.

iDirect DVB S@ 2 Based on the DVB-S2 standard with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), the network will provide broadband voice and data services over Ku-band, delivering significant gains in bandwidth efficiency and throughput rates. The network expands ASC’s investment in the iDirect platform offering multiple service plans to support a wide array of bandwidth intensive and real-time IP applications across the mining, oil and gas, government, maritime, enterprise and small business markets.

ASC plans, over time, to move its customers onto the Evolution network so that they can utilize their current bandwidth more efficiently and expand the number and types of applications that can be run over their individual networks, such as interactive video. Eventually, ASC intends to upgrade all its existing hubs to Evolution, expanding its DVB-S2 network across the Asia Pacific region, to further strengthen its market leadership.

The DVB-S2 network with ACM features iDirect Evolution X3 Series Satellite Routers, Evolution XLC-10 Line Cards and the SkyCelerator TCP network accelerator that includes advanced encryption to support VPN solutions. ASC plans to leverage iDirect’s iVantage network management software to create a Web portal through which its customers can view real-time and historical performance data and usage statistics in an effort to ensure peak efficiency.

iDirect DVB S@ “iDirect’s Evolution platform delivers a powerful advantage, helping us continue to expand our business despite the continued decline in satellite capacity and at a time when organizations in the Asia Pacific region demand ever greater access to satellite broadband to drive their operations. Evolution, along with the other advanced features of the iDirect platform, enables ASC to deliver the highest levels of performance and provide flexible, economical services for our customers. Our extensive knowledge of the Asia Pacific market combined with the world leading technology from iDirect, places us in a very strong position for the future, which is naturally good news to our existing and prospective customers.” States Chris Joseland, Managing Director, Australian Satellite Communications.
