Dynamic Channels is a new, patent pending channel allocation algorithm built on top of the DVB-RCS standard. It allows the VSATs to change their channel symbol rate on a burst-by-burst basis providing a solution for service providers' need to continuously change link speeds and manage multiple Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in a seamless way. Dynamic Channels has been developed in addition to the Adaptive Uplink Power Control and Adaptive MODCOD capabilities that are already supported on SkyEdge II.
With the support of Dynamic Channels, service providers can operate a VSAT network that automatically adjusts to the changing traffic and fade conditions. For example:
- On-demand switching to high-speeds links for a limited time, to meet end-users traffic needs without the need to pre-configure a large inbound carrier.
- Automatic optimization of carrier sizes according to the actual traffic in the network, when there is a mix of SLA profiles.
- Variable day-night traffic scenarios, adjusted automatically and seamlessly.
- Additional link protection by automatically shifting to a slower channel rate during rain-fade conditions.
In addition to Dynamic Channels, the latest release features performance enhancements including further reduction of latency, improvements in space segment efficiency and improvements for specific market applications, such as cellular backhaul and defense.
"SkyEdge II 6.4 software release is another step in strengthening our SkyEdge II VSAT platform. We have added a new dimension to inbound channel adaptivity which will improve network efficiency, increase service availability and make network operations simpler to manage." said Doron Elinav, Gilat's Vice President of Marketing and Business Development.
