Broadpeak has announced that Telecom Argentina has successfully deployed the company's technology to launch its own CDN in Argentina, offering services to users around the country with initial POPs located in the cities of Buenos Aires, Rosario, and Córdoba. The Broadpeak solution, deployed by Broadpeak's local strategic partner Technology Bureau, makes Telecom Argentina owner and operator of a robust CDN that enables the company to eliminate costly, ongoing CDN provider fees while also earning additional revenues by monetizing the CDN through direct lease and wholesale operations. The deployment signifies an important step ahead for Telecom Argentina, Argentina's largest telecommunications group and network service provider. For the installation's central control system, or system manager, Telecom Argentina selected Broadpeak's BkM Mediator, which administers the bandwidth and enables the efficient delivery of content over any type of network. Telecom Argentina uses the portal to easily define how content is distributed to different points of presence. Working in sync with the BkM Mediator, the BkS200 and BkS300 streaming servers provide a unified solution for delivering content via managed or open Internet networks to a variety of platforms. While the BkS200 is used to stream content in Adobe® Flash® format and SHOUTcast/ICEcast formats for web radio streaming, BkS300 is deployed for streaming video content in Microsoft® Windows Media® and Silverlight® Smooth Streaming formats. By combining the most popular streaming formats, the BkS200 and BkS300 platforms can help Telecom Argentina's content partners reach their respective audiences over multiple screens, future-proofing the deployment to account for the growing number of over-the-top rollouts worldwide.

Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) has announced that Crawford Media Services Inc. has deployed the Omneon MediaGrid™ active storage system with MXFserver. This installation is to support a collaborative multiplatform editing environment within its new 80,000-square-foot facility in Atlanta, Georgia. The unique Harmonic production storage solution has allowed Crawford to implement a highly efficient DNxHD workflow in which editors working privately or collaboratively on different platforms can share content in a single storage pool. The MediaGrid production solution brings efficient, highly available storage optimized for media to Crawford's postproduction workflow. Content is ingested and encoded to DNxHD (220 Mbps) and then written to the MediaGrid system as DNxHD files, which are registered to an MXFserver project and presented to authorized users through a project-based interface. This model thus allows producers and editors — regardless of their edit platform — to see and work with all content files assigned to each project.

Utah Scientific has announced that Philadelphia's WFMZ-TV has installed another MC-400 master control switcher in its HD broadcasting infrastructure. The new master control switcher allows WFMZ to add a new sub-channel — and a new revenue stream — to its lineup. WFMZ-TV is a long-time Utah Scientific customer and currently uses the UTAH-400 (144) digital routing switcher and three other MC-400s, as well as some older Utah Scientific analog units. Adding a fourth Utah Scientific master control switcher not only enables WFMZ to add a fourth sub-channel to its main channel, but it also ensures compliance with Federal Communications Commission standards for the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The MC-400 HD/SD master control switcher represents a major step forward in signal processing functionality for live and automated master control systems and incorporates all its signal-processing technology into a single board that can be installed directly in an output slot of a UTAH-400 router frame. This direct connection gives the processor access to every signal within the router with no need for external connections. The MC-400 can stand alone or be used as part of a multichannel system within an MC-2020 network.
