TeleMedic Systems announces the first U.S. installation of the VitalLink3 medical vital signs monitoring system configured for use in a saturation dive chamber onboard The Adams Challenge, a vessel operated by EPIC Diving & Marine Services, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of TETRA Technologies, Inc. (EPIC). “The unique aspects of saturation dive chamber operations are very similar to providing medical support to astronauts on the International Space Station, even though the divers are only separated from medical professionals by several mm of steel; they are, in fact, nearly as remote as if they were in space,” said TeleMedic Systems CEO, Alasdair MacDonald. TeleMedic Systems developed the VitalLink3, a unique mobile vital signs monitor, for use in remote applications, including when configured appropriately, hyperbaric chambers. Medical data collected by the VitalLink3 is available to onsite medical technicians, as well as being sent via satellite to the VitalNet.
The VitalNet’s secure portal provides medical professionals with access to the real-time data sent by the VitalLink3 anywhere they can get an Internet connection. “The VitalLink3 has been designed to operate in some of the harshest environments people travel and work in,” said Gerry Buss, COO, TeleMedic Systems. “In such places, robust remote monitoring technology built to hospital standards can be crucial when responding to medical emergencies.
"In order to continue leading diving services internationally, it is essential that EPIC remains supportive of the correct and proven new technologies. Telemedicine is the future in remote site medical technology and will assist in EPIC’s care of its most important assets – its people. Bringing together the Commercial diver being treated with the treating physician in real time, reduces errors and moves more rapidly to the critical steps in treatment, improving the care our people receive. We are proud to be the first company in the Americas Region to adopt and provide this new but proven technology."
