Look Who’s Moving On Up To VP Of R&D @ International Datacasting

[SatNews] He was formerly the VP of Engineering for the Ottawa-based Stratford Managers.

Chris Barrett has joined International Datacasting as its Vice President of Research & Development.

Chris Barrett has joined International Datacasting (TSX: IDC) as its Vice President of Research & Development. IDC is a global leader in video, audio and data contribution and distribution solutions serving the world’s premier broadcasters.

Barrett has a proven track record in driving innovation and new technologies, increasing throughput and growing teams. “I like to take things to the next level,” he said. “And I’m pleased to join a dynamic company that is making great strides in new product design and development. I’m particularly impressed with the complexity of the successful factory testing of the LASER targeted ad insertion platform with an international broadcaster.   I’m also encouraged by the progress underway with conditional access partners in Asia on two trials of IDC’s Digital Tattoo DTH over IP gateway.”

With Barrett’s addition to the IDC team, the company has gained a leader with extensive experience in engineering management, R&D and operations. He has seven awarded or pending patents for data networking technology. Prior to joining Stratford Managers, Barrett was Vice President of Engineering at Pleora Technologies where he led all R&D and operations activities.

He drove a rapid increase in new product introductions and supervised changes in operations and supply chain management.  As one of the first employees at Gridpoint Systems, he built a high-performance engineering team to take a new product from conception to trial-readiness.  Barrett has also held engineering management roles in companies of all sizes, from start-ups to large enterprises such as Nortel, Alcatel and CIENA.

“We’re very pleased to have Chris Barrett join our leadership team during this time of tremendous change in the broadcast industry,” said Del Lippert, Chairman of the Board and Interim CEO at IDC.  “Chris is a highly experienced systems architect with an extensive background in engineering management, R&D and operations.  He will be leading a seasoned engineering team that has shown great dedication and commitment to the corporation.”
