The domestic security forces of France have a desire for <=150 kg UAVs to aid them with their missions. A five month study has just been authorized by the French government to examine the legal ramifications of such UAV use.

Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, a non-profit group based in The Netherlands, received the contract to conduct the study. The study will provide recommendations as to a legal determination for in-country operation and the technical guidelines for UAV flight ops within France. The French Ministry of Defence, the Direction Générale de la Police Nationale as well as the Services des Technologies de la Sécurité Interieur are involved in this project.
