[SatNews] The Company's nexgen BFT-2 systems will enable far faster situational awareness and higher transmission speeds...
ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq: VSAT) has received delivery orders from PM Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below totaling $71.1 million under its Blue Force Tracking 2 (BFT-2) IDIQ contract. These contracts include terrestrial Internet connectivity, 24/7 support for network operations, and additional production vehicular transceivers. “These orders will enable ViaSat to accelerate ground vehicular transceiver production and support Army installation and field testing of the BFT-2 system this year,” said Phil Berry, vice president of ViaSat Command and Control Situational Awareness (C2SA). The ViaSat BFT-2 network securely transports command and control messages, and situational awareness updates at higher data rates than the BFT-1 network. The BFT-2 network is also expected to improve situational awareness latency from minutes to just seconds. The new BFT-2 system is derived from ViaSat mobile satellite communication technology, which enables fast, efficient network access using very small antennas. These systems provide communications-on-the-move (COTM) service to military and commercial customers.
