SatBroadcasting: Hughes + Bentley Walker Mesh Together

Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) and the Company's European business unit, Hughes Europe, has signed an agreement to supply Bentley Walker with its new HX mesh satellite network technology for delivering broadband services in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

Bentley Walker homepage The contract calls for adding a fifth HX hub with the new mesh, single-hop functionality at Bentley Walker's Network Operations Centre (NOC) in Bedford, U.K., and marks a major extension of the existing agreement between Hughes Europe and the satellite Internet services provider. The HX platform is a compact, cost-effective satellite solution for smaller networks that provides high Quality of Service (QoS) and employs the most efficient implementation of the global IPoS/DVB-S2 industry standard, including Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), approved by TIA in North America, and ETSI and ITU in Europe. In addition to supporting single-hop connectivity among multiple sites in flexible user groups, the advanced HX technology also enables simultaneous implementation of both mesh and star networking topologies.

The Hughes HX technology also enhances GSM backhaul capability, enabling cellular service providers to expand GSM coverage simply, quickly, and cost effectively — especially valuable in remote geographies where the cost of installing a fibre infrastructure would be prohibitive. Bentley Walker displayed the new Hughes HX260 mesh router at the recent CABSAT event in Dubai and received universally positive responses from public and private sector organizations such as government ministries, banks, and telecommunications companies.
