[SatNews] The broadcast and electronic media industry has been on a roller coaster the past few years.

IABM Activities and Events at IBC2011 include IABM conference session Defining the New Media Supply Industry 
on Friday, Sept. 9, from 8:00 to 9:15 a.m. The keynote speaker is Peter White, director general for the IABM.

The global recession has negatively affected business, and rapid technology advances are making profound changes to the way the public consumes media content. The economic situation may be improving, but will anything like the "good old days" ever return, or is the industry entering new territory? To answer questions such as this, the IABM, the trade association representing broadcasting manufacturers and service providers, consistently charts and analyzes the industry's progress and performance. The IABM conference session at IBC2011 will outline the most significant new data revealed by the latest research. A subsequent panel discussion will feature leaders representing all sides of the industry. Experts including Francisco Partners/Grass Valley CEO Alain Andreoli, Harris Broadcast CEO Harris Morris, and Harmonic CEO Patrick Harshman will dissect and discuss the changing landscape of the media supply industry, examine in detail the products and services that the industry is buying, and offer predictions for the future.

The Engineering Student Awards will be in attendance at IBC2011. Presented to ten students, the IABM-sponsored awards program recognizes high-achieving college students in the fields of broadcast engineering or media technology. Each winner's trip to Amsterdam for the show is sponsored by the IABM. In addition to recognizing the efforts of exceptional students, the awards program provides them with the opportunity to interact with new technologies and to meet potential employers within the industry. Engaging both students and their advisors, the awards program is designed to encourage technically skilled young people to consider careers in media and broadcasting.

There will be an invitation only IABM Reception and Awards Presentation
on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. All IABM members are invited, and invitations are available at the IABM stand. The presentation of the IABM Peter Wayne Award and the IABM Awards for Excellence will take place in the Onyx Lounge, RAI. Five finalists will be announced on Aug. 31, with the final judging taking place on Saturday at the show after the judging panel visits each of the finalists for a product demo. Refreshments will be served during the reception.
