Geoimage... On The Spot With Round Four (Imagery)

[SatNews] Geoimage is in the process of completing Round 4 of the SPOT5 image processing project for the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW).

The 2.5m resolution SPOT5 satellite imagery has been an important tool in detecting changes in vegetation cover and extent. The imagery supports a range of government actions, such as habitat mapping and native vegetation compliance, to name a few. Since the inception of the project in 2004, Geoimage has been the sole organisation tasked with processing the SPOT5 imagery across the State. Round 1 of the project, commencing in late 2004, saw approximately 350 SPOT5 scenes captured to cover the entire state. Geoimage was contracted to orthorectify, colour-balance, mosaic and tile the imagery to create one seamless image covering the entire state. The project was so successful that after several years of collecting SPOT5 imagery over priority areas of NSW, the entire state was again captured during Round 2 in 2008. The third state-wide capture commenced in 2009, and SPOT5 imagery for Round 4 was captured during early 2010. Geoimage has processed every SPOT5 scene over the years, and have just been retained to process Round 5 of the project, scheduled to start in November 2010. In total, more than 2000 SPOT5 scenes have passed through Geoimage’s Brisbane office. Being a reseller of SPOT products for over 15 years, Geoimage also has a close working relationship with Spot Imaging Services (SIS), the agency that facilitates the capture of SPOT5 imagery for DECCW.
