This Won't Happen Any Earlier Than June 2nd — LRO/LCROSS Launch

LRO/LCROSS satellite (NASA) NASA has rescheduled the launch of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter/Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LRO / LCROSS) to a date no earlier than June 2nd.

Extra time is needed to build back the Atlas V processing schedule to support the launch, as such became insufficient after the earlier launch postponement of the Atlas V for the non-NASA mission that's currently on the launch pad. This past week, the LRO team has been involved in mission launch rehearsals, from liftoff through lunar insertion to electrical testing. April 8th is the date the solar arrays are planned for installation. The launch will occur from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral AFS in Florida.
