Comtech EF Data's Sat Modems To Communicate In Asia

Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (Nasdaq:CMTL) announced its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., has won a US$1.6 million order for SATCOM equipment. An Asian mobile operator will use the equipment to support satellite-based cellular backhaul service expansion.

Comtech EF Data sat modems The order specifies Comtech EF Data's CDM-600 Satellite Modems and redundancy switches, plus the CX-U Series cellular backhaul platform from its subsidiary, Memotec, Inc. The CDM-600 is an open network satellite modem compliant with IESS-308/309/310/314/315 from 64 kbps through T2 and E2. The architecture is firmware and FPGA-based, and the modem offers exceptional flexibility and performance in a 1RU enclosure. Memotec's CX-U Series is a dedicated cellular backhaul platform that delivers Radio Access Network optimization and A/E voice trunks compression. The CX-U reduces the bandwidth required to backhaul cellular traffic, therefore avoiding costly forklift network upgrades. The result is a significant reduction in operating and capital expenses.
