NovelSat + EBU—Taking On The Transmissions (SatBroadcasting™—Mods + Demods)

[SatNews] The European Broadcasting Union is migrating its European satellite network with NovelSat's NS3 transmission technology.

The plan to upgrade follows global satellite broadcasts of a number of large sporting events using NovelSat modulating equipment last year, including the London 2012 Olympic Games, NBA, Formula One and others. NovelSat has, for some years now, positioned its NS3 system as a third generation satellite technology (see this direct link for information), and the Israeli company claims this move will effectively make the EBU satellite network the fastest and most robust in the world.

The deal will see the EBU upgrading a significant part of its vast European satellite network to NS1000 and NS2000 satellite modulators and demodulators. Its equipment will be used for the transmission of EBU events, including all major European sports broadcasts and news gathering. According to NovelSat, its NS3 technology provides up to a 30 percent increase in data rate per given bandwidth, resulting in capacity savings and other operational efficiencies compared to DVB-S2. The vendor was known to be pitching NS3 as the basis for a potential new DVB-S3 standard but so far DVB has made no official announcements on this front.
