BBC + VOA — Sat Signal Sabotage By Iran

David Allen of TechWatch is informing all that British and US broadcasters claim their satellite signals are being blocked by the Iranian government to keep the general public from experiencing content from the likes of the BBC, which often carries stories from Iran. This issue seems to be affecting the Persian service from the BBC and the Voice of America (VOA) from the US. According to the VOA, the Iranians appear to have been blocking the Hot Bird satellite’s signals since the later part of December. The interruption to the satellite services seems to have started following the BBC’s reporting of the death of the reformist cleric Grand Ayatollah Hoseyn Ali Montazeri. What happens is viewers get a slight picture, but it will break up and the sound is distorted, making the broadcast unwatchable.
