Intelsat Ltd. has announced that Detecon Al Saudia Co. Ltd. (DETASAD) signed a multi-year contract for Ku-band capacity on Intelsat’s new satellite, IS-15, which will be located at 85 degrees East when launched later this year.
DETASAD, a German-Saudi Arabian joint venture telecommunications and IT company, will use this capacity to provide additional Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) transmission services to its small and medium enterprise, government and maritime customers throughout the Middle East. Under a separate contract signed in June 2008, DETASAD became a distributor of Intelsat’s Network Broadband Global Maritime service. DETASAD’s maritime customers will benefit from Intelsat’s service that offers an always-on, true broadband connection and automatic beam switching technology for a flat monthly fee.
