DigitalGlobe... Upgrading Tasking, Downloading + Delivery For Warfighters (Imagery)

[SatNews] DigitalGlobe (NYSE: DGI) will provide upgrades to multiple U.S. Air Force...

...Eagle Vision mobile ground stations. This new capability will enable the delivery of the highest-quality imagery directly to warfighters and first responders in the fastest way possible. Upon completion, the ground stations will be capable of tasking DigitalGlobe's WorldView constellation of Earth imaging satellites and rapidly downloading imagery from the satellites at maximum resolution, including DigitalGlobe's exclusive 8-band multi-spectral imagery. In most cases, this capability will make it possible to task, download and deliver new, up-to-date imagery to end-users within minutes of collection.

Eagle Vision is a family of deployable commercial remote sensing satellite downlink and imagery processing stations. The Eagle Vision stations located across the world collect imagery from commercial satellites that are used for intelligence preparation of the battle space; mission planning and rehearsal; predictive battle space awareness; battle damage assessment; natural disasters and catastrophic events. The system ensures that U.S. forces and first responders have current, relevant, high-resolution imagery of areas of interest that can be exploited and delivered quickly. Eagle Vision stations have provided planning and mission support to combat operations since 1994, including Operations Allied Force, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. In addition, the program has also aided natural disaster relief and humanitarian efforts, including responses to the California wildfires, Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

The U.S. Air Force is working with the NGA to leverage NGA's EnhancedView Service Level Agreement (SLA) for obtaining the imagery. DigitalGlobe will deploy the upgrades with partners MDA and Orbit Logic starting in early 2013, with the first terminal expected to be operational by the middle of the year. The agreement was previously mentioned by the company on its 3rd quarter earnings conference call with investors on Oct. 31, 2012.
