While floods happen regularly during the summer monsoon, the 2013 floods have forced more than 30,000 people from their homes in the Kayin state, southeast of the area shown in this image. (The floods in Kayin are not visible due to persistent clouds.) The lower image, also from Aqua MODIS, shows the Irrawady and Chirtdwin Rivers on June 15, 2013, at the beginning of the monsoon season.
