Viva la France — Lighter UAV Wings Assist with Altitude and Autonomy

French UAV The new version of the SDTI intermediate UAV has been displayed on the Paris Air show Defence platform ST - A 026. Personnel from the 61st artillery regiment, who man this equipment, will outline the SDTI’s operational use. As part of the Economy Recovery plan, The DGA (French Armament Procurement Agency) launched the procurement of three next generation unmanned aerial vehicles. These new UAVs will be fitted with lighter wings enabling enhanced autonomy, especially in high altitude and temperatures. They should be delivered in early 2010.

Deployed in Afghanistan since October 2008, the SDTI carried out, on 15 May, its 100th reconnaissance mission in the forward operational base of Tora, Surobi.

The SDTI, operated by the Army since 2004, are not only used for their usual intelligence and target acquisition for field artillery, but also as part of the protection of the forces deployed.
