....space and satellite telecommunications will take place from October 2nd through the 5th, 2012, in Rome, Italy. One of the featured speakers will be Sergio Pillon, Medical Director of CIRM who will present a workshop entitled “Telemedicine needs satellite.” “In telemedicine activities, the satellite has a unique opportunity to operate, especially when it comes to health for the people working onboard of ships and boats, ”says Pillon, also Director of the Telemedicine Unit of S.Camillo-Forlanini Hospital in Rome. “Thousands of people works for months onboard of ships. Onboard medical care usually is not an option for the majority of the ships,” he added. “Which is why remote assistance of telemedicine via satellite can be extremely helpful to get real time data about workers health and assist them for medications. So far, CIRM has virtually hospitalized and assisted more than 27,000 seamen.” Telemedicine and satellite will be the main focus of the Workshop at ESTEL Conference.
