Newtec... bePART Of Latin America's Booming Partnership (SatCom)

[SatNews] Closing the digital divide in Latin America is heating up.

Newtec a major broadband satellite communications company is stepping up to address the rapidly growing Latin American market. Newtec plans senior staff additions at its regional headquarters in São Paulo and the roll-out of its new partner-driven business program ‘bePART’ in Brazil and a number of neighboring countries.

The new appointees will provide additional support for Newtec’s current customer base and distributor network, and grow the company’s business in Latin America as a whole. Initial target markets for new business are Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Peru, with others following. The bePART programme, through which partners deliver added value to end-users locally and strengthen the Newtec brand, will involve existing and new channel partners.

Newtec is also putting increased focus on local vertical markets such as broadcasting, mining, telecoms, government and broadband access.

According to Bart Van Utterbeeck, Newtec Sales Director for Latin America, the regional market for satellite infrastructure is presently booming. A number of factors are at work, including strong economic growth, the desire to close the ‘digital divide’, and the advantages possessed by satellite technologies when addressing the challenges posed by Latin America’s various terrains and vast expanses.

“There are many new business opportunities resulting in an increased demand for satellite infrastructure. This is true for both the Latin American broadcast and telecoms market sectors,” points out Van Utterbeeck. “We believe that growth will continue and we are therefore strengthening our organisation so we can service this increased demand.”

“So far we have concentrated on commercial customers in the region. However, our equipment is used to satisfy Universal Service Obligations (USOs), where telecom operators are obliged to provide a minimum level of service to remote, economically less attractive regions. USOs will remain an important component of the market for the future,” continues Van Utterbeeck. “Furthermore there’s a large regional demand for affordable broadband connectivity on various levels, ranging from “prosumers” to the different vertical corporate sectors of the traditional VSAT business. We have also seen expansion in satellite news gathering, with demand for High Definition links from news and sports events.”

The soaring Latin American demand for satellite capacity is playing to Newtec’s core technology strong points. “Satellite bandwidth is becoming scarce and customers are investing in solutions that guarantee higher efficiencies. We have seen a lot of interest in our FlexACM solution, which is a ‘Best in Class’ product when it comes to optimizing bandwidth efficiencies,” reports Van Utterbeeck.
