Artel's Spin On Media Transport Solutions... Support Interoperability

[SatNews] Ramping up for IBC2014 companies are touting their products, and so it goes with...

At IBC2014 (Stand 2.A20), Artel will demonstrate a variety of comprehensive media transport solutions that support new interoperability standards. Artel’s solutions for transporting broadcast-quality media across IP networks, direct fiber, and optical backbones will be highlighted during three presentations:

JPEG 2000 Compression
With its low latency, cost-effectiveness, and unmatched compression quality, JPEG 2000 is rapidly becoming the industry standard compression format for transporting HD-SDI over bandwidth-limited network infrastructures. In addition, new interoperability standards for formatting JPEG 2000 streams over IP increases the flexibility of JPEG 2000 for media transport. At IBC2014, Artel will demonstrate its JPEG 2000 compression solution.

The DLC610 HD-SDI JPEG 2000 compression module is a user programmable JPEG 2000 encoder or decoder featuring low latency with industry standard ASI encapsulation.  The flexible design enables the DLC610 module to be used as a low-cost standalone solution for integration into industry standard ASI equipment, or work in the highly integrated DigiLink platform with its internal routing of video and  Ethernet traffic for transport, trunking, and distribution. An ideal solution for transporting high quality HD-SDI signals across DVB-ASI compatible networks, the DLC610 module uses the IntoPix® compression core to compress HD-SDI into an 80 to 180Mb/s JPEG 2000 video codestream and then, encapsulated with all audio and ancillary data, into DVB-ASI per industry standards. The resulting DVB-ASI stream is now ready to be transported via fiber links, Gig-E, and/or optical networks for decoding and delivery using another DLC610 or other industry standard JPEG 2000 decoders.

Broadcast Video-Over-IP
With the advent of reliable IP networks and the development of industry transport standards such as SMPTE 2022, broadcast quality video-over-IP is now a reality. At IBC2014, Artel will showcase its complete set of cost-effective, reliable solutions for transporting HD-SDI, SD-SDI, and DVB-ASI over IP networks. Artel offers a complete solution for transporting uncompressed and compressed video over IP networks.  Supporting HD-SDI, SD-SDI and DVB-ASI, these modules are designed to be simple to configure and monitor, while offering flexible configurable operation in virtually any network environment. Plus, being designed to SMPTE 2022 standards ensures interoperable IP encapsulation and a most robust FEC.

Integrated Signal Routing
Artel will also demonstrate their flagship product DigiLink's integrated signal routing capabilities. The ability to route video and Ethernet signals simply, reliably, and in real-time within a media transport chassis eliminates the need for external video routers and Ethernet switches. DigiLink's design routes and switches media in its native format, eliminating unnecessary costs and complexities, while increasing reliability and quality of service.

Designed into all DigiLink chassis is an internal routing capability that allows users to remotely route native video and Ethernet traffic from module to module without the need of external connections of routers.  Embedding DL-Manager, a simple on-board HTTP management system, into the DigiLink switch module enables users located at any location using any browser the ability to route video and Ethernet, change functions and features, and monitor the DigiLink chassis. DigiLink routes traffic in its native format, simplifying the design, which significantly lowers cost, increases reliability, and eliminates conversion latency. DigiLink’s internal routing and switching virtually eliminates the need for technician truck rolls to address a change in transport requirements.
