Harris Co-Developed Small Tactical Terminal With ViaSat Gains Follow-On Contract

[SatNews] Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has received a one-year, $10 million follow-on production contract for its portion of production of the Small Tactical Terminal, a co-developed product with ViaSat (NASDAQ: VSAT)—this latest award brings the overall contract value for Harris to more than $25 million since 2010.

The Small Tactical Terminal (STT) was jointly developed by ViaSat and Harris, to enable soldiers at the tactical edge of the battlefield to access real-time situational awareness, location, and command and control information using a single radio terminal sized to fit space-constrained, mobile-ground and light-aircraft platforms. The STT combines industry-leading expertise in the Link16 tactical communications and VHF/UHF radio technologies, including the Soldier Radio Waveform and the Harris Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform, in a small size, weight and power unit at a lower cost. It provides two simultaneous radio channels in a significantly smaller chassis than previous terminals, making digital Link 16 communications available to users who previously could not use it due to size and weight constraints.

"The STT leverages innovative and proven tactical communications expertise from both ViaSat and Harris,” said Ed Zoiss, vice president and general manager, Defense Programs, Harris Government Communications Systems. “It is built upon ViaSat's rich heritage in Link16 terminals and utilizes a Software Communications Architecture based on the Harris Falcon III® AN/PRC-152(C) multiband handheld radio.”
