iDirect + Infosat Communications... Upgrade Ubiquity (SATCOM)

[SatNews] Infosat Communications LP, a global provider of satellite communications solutions, has upgraded its North American VSAT network with iDirect's Evolution platform.

With Evolution, Infosat can exceed customer demands for increased bandwidth and throughput, and capture new market opportunities. Infosat's new Evolution network will be integrated with 12 existing operational iDirect satellite hubs in North America, and will use iDirect's recent Evolution software release, iDX 2.1. Infosat's infrastructure upgrade allows the provider to offer the improved network performance and enhanced capabilities that a customer demands, without having to sacrifice reliability or compromise economic feasibility. Infosat's network provides critical enterprise IP-data access for high-end customers' remote work sites, and is utilized primarily by the oil and gas sector, including drilling, production, and pipeline; the mining sector; as well as by various utility and maritime customers.

ACM enables each remote to achieve maximum data throughput by using the most efficient coding and modulation scheme dependant upon the location within the satellite contour, antenna size, and clear sky conditions versus rain fade.
As communications requirements at remote locations have matured, Infosat's customers now rely on more bandwidth-intensive applications such as video surveillance to monitor and manage their unmanned sites. At the same time, they require terrestrial-grade service quality and reliability to protect vital connectivity links to these distant operations from degrading or going down for any reason. With iDirect's Evolution platform, Infosat's network can support customers' maturing needs more efficiently, allowing the provider to better use space segment and continue to add new customers. Evolution's built-in features help Infosat provide the enhanced service performance that its customers require. iDirect's Group Quality of Service (GQoS) technology, for example, ensures priority is given to those on-site applications that are critical to remote operations and safety, such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP) access. Further, to overcome weather challenges in hostile environments, another feature of iDirect's platform, Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), helps Infosat ensure better throughput at remote sites by automatically optimizing link performance to prevent rain fade.
