[SatNews] Comtech EF Data has received US$1 million in orders for SATCOM infrastructure equipment.
A major GSM operator in West Africa will use the equipment to support the expansion of its satellite-based GSM backhaul. The GSM operator will leverage two different combinations of Comtech EF Data equipment with RAN Optimization from Comtech EF Data’s subsidiary, Memotec, to cost-effectively expand its network.
First, the CDM-570A Satellite Modem and the CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem with DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® will be deployed to support the expansion of a large capacity GSM backhaul network utilizing the highly efficient Single Channel per Carrier (SCPC) technology teamed with Memotec’s CXU Series RAN Optimization products.
Second, the Advanced VSAT Solution’s ODM-840 Outdoor Remote Router with dynamic bandwidth allocation and integrated RAN optimization working in tandem will be utilized for low-speed rural GSM backhaul, supporting outdoor cellular site installations fully powered by solar.
