House of Representatives—STELA For SatTV Subscribers Passes (Legislation)

[SatNews] Satellite content providers will now be able to repurpose signals from other markets when their subscribers are unable to view local markets.

This is good news for the likes of satellite content providers such as DISH Network and DIRECTV, as the U.S. House of Representatives has reauthorized a law that allows such to be implemented. The STELA (Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act) has now been authorized for five years. Later this year, a Senate version of the bill is expected to be heading for a vote which, if it passes, will then go through the sometimes agonizing reconciliation process that occurs between the House and Senate versions. If all proceeds positively, the law would then allow nearly two million satTV subscribers to, once again, access important broadcast programming.
