Small Footprint & High Power Delivered By Teledyne Paradise Datacom

Able to withstand extreme environmental conditions all the while delivering high reliability is a sign of technical prowess within the SATCOM environs.

With such in mind, Teledyne Paradise Datacom, a business unit of Teledyne Microwave Solutions, has added a new 500W solid state power amplifier (SSPA) to the firm's line of Compact Outdoor GaN SSPAs.  With a size of 10.0x19.5x 6.5-inches, the new outdoor SSPA provides the smallest footprint available for a high power 500W SSPA in the L/S bands.

The full line of Paradise Compact Outdoor SSPAs is built to deliver high reliability while withstanding extreme environmental conditions.  With the highest power density available in the industry, these SSPAs can be deployed in outdoor scenarios that have traditionally been reserved for older traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA) technology.

Key features of the new 500W Outdoor SSPA (MODEL HP-AS2-500) include:

  • Instantaneous Bandwidth - 1.75 – 2.12 GHz
  • Psat – 500 watts / Plinear – 250 watts
  • Gallium Nitride (GaN) architecture
  • Integrated Reflected Power Monitor
  • True RMS Power Detection
  • Smallest power-to-footprint-ratio in the industry (10.0” X 19.5” X 6.50”)
  • Available in single-thread and fully redundant configurations

These Paradise SSPAs are available in a broad range of bands (S-, L-, C-, X-, and Ku-) and power levels (100W through 500W).

According to Tony Radford, the Vice President of Sales for Paradise, this new 500 watt L/S band Compact Outdoor SSPA is based on the latest Gallium Nitride device technology and delivers the power density, efficiency and thermal resiliency that users of GaN amplifiers have come to expect as well as considerably wider instantaneous bandwidth.
