Perhaps a Move to Planet by Alphabet with Their Satellite Imagery Works

A number of sources that include Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal are indicating that Alphabet Inc., the mother company of Google that operates our of the Googleplex in Mountain View, California, is reducing the number of their long-term projects as well as contracting a number of their R&D departments—the latter considerations would also include the firm's satellite imaging business, formerly known as Terra Bella, which was formerly known as Skybox Imaging.

Word is that the sale is being pushed toward Planet, a current competitor in the satellite imaging business. According to sources, Alphabet would prefer to purchase their imagery from those already in the market segment rather than own and operate satellites, which tends to be rather expensive.

For Planet, the goodness in this deal would encompass the ability to offer their customers higher quality imagery as well as to wrap their arms around subject-matter experts in data processing as well as satellite operations as well as bring their processing to Google's Cloud Platform.
