Altec Multimedia + DBS Satellite Services—STB Sign-Off (SatBroadcasting™—payTV)

[SatNews] Altech Multimedia and DBS Satellite Services Ltd. (YES) have signed an agreement for the provision of the new generation of set-top boxes (STBs) to the Israeli payTV market.

This deal, which was signed during IBC 2013 by Mr. Ron Eilon, CEO of DBS Satellite (YES) and Mr. Bartolomeo Caputo, Managing Director of Altech Multimedia in Europe, is important for DBS Satellite (YES) in terms of technological advances in their set-top box offerings and also marks the continuing trust of Altech Multimedia, while being joined by another technology partner, Cisco, who will be providing the encryption system for this product.

This new STB is based on the latest Broadcom platform that uses the BCM7354 SoC chipset and features a single DVB-S/S2 tuner, internet data connectivity, an internal flash-disk module for controlled VOD functionality, a new exclusive box design and is powered by Cisco’s own middleware. The technical design of this new product takes into account the Video-on- Demand services that are becoming a growing part of the YES line of services, offering a wider choice of content to their customers, either to view live or off-line.

The expected launch of the product is April 2014.
