Universal Space Network (USN) + Boeing—Gaining The GX Gateway (SATCOM)

[SatNews] The Boeing Company recently contracted with Universal Space Network (USN) to design, build, operate, and maintain a Mil-Ka Gateway for Boeing Commercial Satellite Services in support of Inmarsat's Global Xpress (GX) program.

Universal Space Network (USN), acting as the Prime Contractor, brought together a team consisting of SSC Chile, ViaSat, and Telefonica/MoviStar to win the contract in a competitive environment.  SSC Chile will act as the primary implementation and operations subcontractor. ViaSat Corporation will supply the antenna and associated networking systems.  Telefonica/MoviStar will act as the terrestrial fiber supplier. Under the contract, which is valued in excess of 12 million dollars, Universal Space Network will deliver services for five years in a Firm Fixed Price arrangement with extended options available.  Service delivery is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2014.

John Williams, CEO of USN, said, “Our close partnerships within the team allowed us to work quickly and deliver a technically strong proposal at a very good price.  Our commercial approach allowed flexibility to meet changing requirements while maintaining a focus on performance and delivery.”
