Bridge Technologies—Technology Showcase @ NAB 2014 (Event—SatBroadcasting™)

March 24, 2014

[SatNews] Bridge Technologies (Booth SU3106) will present a strong product portfolio for connected media operations at NAB 2014, with a focus on Objective QoE, the company’s solution for precision quality of experience monitoring.

Complementing Bridge Technologies extensive measurement metrics portfolio for understanding QoS in nearly any transport mechanism within telecom and broadcast, Objective QoE implements a new approach to quality of experience based on a range of criteria specific to digital media operations.

“It’s important to understand that QoE solutions to date are mostly based on a subjective methodology and criteria derived from the telecoms industry, and this doesn’t make sense as a basis for evaluating digital media services,” said Simen Frostad, Chairman, Bridge Technologies. “In following this path, conventional QoE systems are really up a blind alley and are not delivering the most useful and meaningful data to digital media operators.”

By implementing a QoE solution based solely on the assessment of objective performance factors specific to digital media operations, Bridge Technologies has produced a more accurate tool for QoE assessment, free from the spurious and misleading results generated by conventional systems. A key component of the Objective QoE system, the VB288 delivers visual content extraction, status displays and alerts to a virtual videowall display that can be viewed through any web browser. Running on a standard high-specification server, the VB288 powers monitoring and analysis of large numbers of HD H.264 and H.265/HEVC channels and can display them in multiple browser windows, for instant verification of Objective QoE alerts generated by the system in addition to events generated through other Bridge Technologies products such as the VBC Controller Server.

“It’s objective and empirical: There is no attempt to create algorithmic simulations of ‘the human experience’ – just solid, precise instant information and the ability to verify objectively those errors that lead to an impairment of the quality viewers are experiencing,” Frostad added.

With an easy ‘embedded feel’ setup and operation experience, and accessible from any location, the VB288 provides a highly effective tool for integrating Objective QoE into digital media monitoring for connected media services.
