LTE Cellular Backhaul Test With SpeedCast Results In More Than 400 Mbps By iDirect

VT iDirect, Inc. (iDirect), a company of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. (VT Systems), has announced that lab tests with SpeedCast International Ltd., a global network and satellite communications service provider, have demonstrated GTP/LTE traffic being transmitted over a single iDirect SatHaul™ terminal at speeds over 350 Mbps on the downstream and 90 Mbps on the upstream.

This proof-of-concept is critical in helping SpeedCast achieve a leading position in cellular backhaul provisioning and helping mobile operators extend the reach of their services via satellite connectivity. As demand for 4G/LTE service continues to escalate around the globe, SpeedCast is helping mobile operators scale their networks efficiently through delivery of a managed service offering, delivering high performance with no capital expenditures for the operator. Core to that strategy is choosing the right solution for mobile backhaul that can extend data connectivity into rural and remote areas, along with specialized environments, such as emergency services and disaster recovery, in a cost-effective manner while ensuring high service reliability.

With test results hitting 350 Mbps on the downstream, iDirect’s DVB-S2X technology provides a proof-of-concept that essentially doubles previous levels of speed achieved in the market. Designed to provide a path to the most optimal ongoing network performance, iDirect’s DVB-S2X strategy puts SpeedCast in best position to match network speed and quality of service expectations, both today and going forward.

As indicated by Pierre-Jean Beylier, the CEO of SpeedCast, his company plays a critical role in helping mobile operators extend their service offerings into new geographical areas to capture even greater revenues. After witnessing this new throughput record for GTP/LTE traffic being transmitted over a single iDirect terminal, he stated that the benefits provided to customers in terms of speed and efficiency are highly positive in nature. Technological advances such as these will be one of the keys to ensure continuous success in meeting the needs of operators, he added.

Kevin Steen, VP of Global Sales and COO, iDirect, said that iDirect's strategy is to provide a mobile backhaul solution that assists their partners in extending their data services, both affordably and reliably. “The results of our test with SpeedCast provide convincing evidence that our DVB-S2X strategy will position our customers to stay ahead of the competition as the market for LTE service explodes and throughput becomes the litmus test for securing market opportunities.”
