EUMETSAT's EUMETCast Bringing Himawari-8 Data To Users


[Satnews] Level 1 data from the Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) flying on Japan Meteorological Agency's (JMA) Himawari-8 satellite will be available on EUMETCast starting on October 8.

The data are from 11 channels at 2 km resolution, every 30 minutes. They are provided by JMA in Himawari Standard Format (HSD) and converted to HRIT format at EUMETSAT, prior to redistribution. Each channel is split geographically into 10 segments.

The file names are designed to be compliant with the JMA HRIT Mission Specific Implementation: http://www.jma.go.jp/jma/jma-eng/satellite/introduction/4_2HRIT.pdf (Details can be found in Appendix A, §A.3.1.)

The data will be distributed on EUMETCast Europe:

Channel: EUMETSAT Data Channel 4
PID: 500
Multicast Address: 224.223.222.27

They are being made available in parallel to the current MTSAT-2 data flow, which is planned to stop mid-November (exact date to be confirmed in due course).

Users who wish to receive Himawari-8 data should subscribe to 'Himawari-8 half-hourly image data' via the Earth Observation Portal (EOP).
