Globalstar Receives FCC's Terrestrial Authorized Licenses

Globalstar issued the following announcement:

Globalstar, Inc. (NYSE American: GSAT) today announced that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued licenses authorizing Globalstar’s terrestrial broadband services over its satellite spectrum at 2483.5 MHz to 2495.0 MHz.

On December 23rd of last year, the FCC unanimously adopted a Report & Order permitting Globalstar to provide terrestrial broadband services over 11.5 MHz of its licensed Mobile Satellite Services spectrum at 2483.5 to 2495 MHz. As provided in that Report & Order, Globalstar filed applications to amend its existing MSS licenses in April of this year in order to receive the terrestrial authorization permitted in the Report & Order.

The FCC placed Globalstar’s applications on public notice in May with a comment cycle that ended July 11th. No oppositions to Globalstar’s applications were filed. Today, the FCC issued to Globalstar modified licenses permitting terrestrial services.

The following statement can be attributed to Jay Monroe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Globalstar: “Our receipt of the licenses today marks the end of the FCC regulatory process to obtain terrestrial authority over our S-band spectrum and the beginning of a new range of innovative wireless services that will benefit consumers for decades to come. We greatly appreciate the hard work and dedication of the FCC, and especially the staff of the bureaus and offices, that helped us all come together at the end of last year to reach a successful conclusion to the proceeding. We are now working with major chipset and infrastructure providers to put this spectrum to more intensive use by consumers not only in the United States, but around the world.”
