Azercosmos and the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 23, 2019, with the aim of increasing the scope and breadth of the collaboration between the two organizations, during the recent 70th International Astronautical Congress that was in session in Washington D.C.
On behalf of their respective organizations, the Chairman of Azercosmos, Rashad Nabiyev, and SGAC Executive Director, Clementine Decoopman, committed the organizations to work together in promoting space activities to young professionals and students, as well as to strengthen the space sector’s workforce through career development, education and outreach.
Among the activities considered under the MoU, Azercosmos and SGAC expressed the intention of promoting SGAC in Azerbaijan by encouraging students and young professionals from the country to join. The MoU will also support finding a National Point of Contact for the organisation in Azerbaijan who could introduce SGAC to local universities in the country. Both organisations will also explore the possibility to organize joint activities in preparation to the 73rd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Baku in 2022 which could include the organisation of local events in Azerbaijan and joint activities at the Space Generation Congresses and IACs in Dubai and Paris.
Rashad Nabiyev, Chairman and CEO, Azercosmos, said to have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), the organization that has the largest and most diverse network of students and young professionals in the space sector, is of great importance for us. Azercosmos puts great importance on revealing youth’s potential in the space industry in Azerbaijan and holds various projects to increase the students’ interest in this field. In this direction, the company has already started cooperation with SGAC. This MoU will be an impetus for further joint projects, activities, and scholarships with SGAC to engage with youth and provide them with opportunities for growth in the space sector.
The SGAC Executive Director, Clementine Decoopman added the organization is thrilled about strengthening bonds with Azercosmos, fostering the diversity of partners that SGAC has always been proud of supporting. This MoU will enable SGAC in better serving students and young professionals in the Caucasus, and provide a fruitful framework in the light of the IAC hosted in Baku.
