Susan Eid
has been
appointed
as vice
president of Government Relations
of Hughes.
Eid,
who most recently served as a legal advisor to Federal Communications
Commission Chairman Michael Powell, will be based in Washington, D.C.
Eid will oversee all regulatory and
legislative affairs for Hughes and its operating companies, including
DIRECTV.
From August 2000 through August 2003
Ms. Eid served as a senior public policy advisor to FCC Chairman
Powell on all media issues, including satellite, broadcast, cable
television and broadband issues. Ms. Eid served as vice president of
MediaOne Group -- overseeing its Washington, D.C. office -- from July
1998 through July 2000. Prior to joining MediaOne, Ms. Eid served in
progressively responsible legal and government affairs positions for
Continental Cablevision from August 1989 through June 1998.
News Corporation completed its
acquisition of 34 percent of Hughes common stock last December.
