PanAmSat Corporation (NASDAQ:SPOT)
today announced that Chase Carey, president and chief executive
officer of Hughes Electronics Corporation, has been appointed to serve
as chairman of the board of PanAmSat. Mr. Carey succeeds Jack Shaw who
retired as president and chief executive officer of Hughes with the
completion of the News Corporation's acquisition of 34 percent of
Hughes common stock last December.
Previously, Carey was co-chief operating officer of News Corporation
and President and chief executive officer of Sky Global Networks until
his resignation in January 2002. He also served as chairman and chief
executive officer of the Fox Television Group until 2001. He continued
as a member of the Board of Directors of News Corp. and as a
consultant to the company.
In addition, PanAmSat also announced
the appointment of Bruce Churchill and Patrick Doyle to its Board of
Directors. Churchill was recently appointed chief financial officer of
Hughes where he is responsible for the Company's overall financial
operations, as well as overseeing the operations of DIRECTV Latin
America. Prior to joining Hughes, he served as president and chief
operating officer of STAR, News Corporation's Asian satellite
television and multi-media service.
Doyle, who has been with Hughes since 1992, was recently promoted to
senior vice president, controller, treasurer and chief accounting
officer of the
company.
PanAmSat's board also includes Joseph R. Wright, Jr., president and
chief executive officer, PanAmSat Corporation; Patrick J. Costello,
chief financial officer, Northway Management Company, LLC; Eddy W.
Hartenstein, vice chairman of Hughes; Dennis Hightower, former chief
executive officer of Europe Online Network S.A.; James M. Hoak,
chairman, Hoak Capital Corporation; Larry D. Hunter, corporate
executive vice president and general counsel, Hughes; and Stephen R.
Kahn, Managing Director, Advent International Corporation. |
