DirecTV Appoints Richard Slenker as Executive Vice President, Technology and Engineering Operations
El Segundo, Calif./February 9, 2004/Satnews/ Richard Slenker has been appointed DirecTV's Executive Vice President, Technology and Engineering Operations. He will oversee engineering, technology, and systems development and integration support for DirecTV operations nationwide. Prior to joining DIRECTV, Slenker served as executive vice president of Engineering and Operations for FOX Television Stations, Inc. In this position, Slenker was responsible for the implementation and execution of all technology decisions, technical station upgrades and overseeing various station engineering staffs. He also managed the digital TV build-out for all FOX owned and operated stations across the country. In addition, Slenker served as senior vice president, chief technology officer for ASkyB from 1996-97, and prior to that was vice-president, Engineering and Operations at FOX WTTG-TV in Washington D.C. from 1991-96. Slenker was born and raised in New York and earned his bachelor of arts degree from Colgate University. He also holds a master's of technology management degree from the Polytechnic Institute of New York. News Corporation completed its acquisition of 34 percent of Hughes common stock last December.
