Marcel Fenez re-elected as CASBAA Chairman

Hong Kong, SAR, China./December 11, 2003/Satnews/  The Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA) today announced that Marcel Fenez, Asia Pacific Leader, Entertainment and Media Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers was re-elected for a second two-year term as Chairman of the Association during the CASBAA 2003 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Singapore on December 4th.

Also elected to the CASBAA Board of Directors 2004 for a two-year term were Michelle Guthrie, CEO Star Group, Francois Theron, COO of cable operator UBC of Thailand, Alexander Brown, President & CEO of CNBC Asia, Steve Marcopoto, President of Turner International Asia Pacific and Richard Cunningham Senior Vice President of MTV Networks Asia Pacific.

 

Remaining on the CASBAA Board of Directors 2004 for the second year of their two-year terms are Peter Jackson, CEO AsiaSat (CASBAA Treasurer), William Pfeiffer, CEO Celestial Pictures and Neville Meijers, EVP and MD Discovery Networks Asia.

 

Also elected to the CASBAA Council of Governors, the Association’s most senior group, were John Doherty Head of International Operations of ABC Asia Pacific, Steve Smith CEO and EVP of Mediaview (Encore International) and Sing Wang CEO & Executive Director of the TOM Group.

 

Stepping down from the CASBAA Board and the CASBAA Council of Governors were former Association President, Frank Brown, President of MTV Networks Asia and James Ross, Media Marketing Director, Bloomberg LP, both of whom have served as participating members of CASBAA for the past six years.

 

Frank Brown and James Ross were given formal votes of thanks by both the AGM and Council of Governors when they announced their departure from active roles within the Association.

 

“For 2004 our priorities of fighting pay-TV piracy, promoting pay-TV advertising and driving industry development in India and China have been reaffirmed,” said Marcel Fenez at the end of the meetings on December 4th. "Meanwhile, we are undertaking new initiatives such as launching training schemes, enhancing our database of industry knowledge and increasing our regulatory focus. He added: "This is a time of great change and growth for CASBAA, but we really will miss the direct input at the highest level from the likes of Frank Brown and James Ross. Even so, we will benefit greatly from the commitment of new Board Members like Michelle Guthrie, Francois Theron, Sandy Brown and Richard Cunningham.”

 

During the CASBAA Annual General Meeting it was also announced that the Association’s two  industry events for the coming year would be the CASBAA Convention 2004 in Hong Kong, October 26th-29th 2004, and the CASBAA Satellite Industry Forum 2004 in Singapore on June 14th 2004.
