New Skies Names Director of Government Services

The Hague, Netherlands/June 26, 2002/Satnews Daily/ New Skies Satellites N.V. has named Robert W. Turner as director of government services, spearheading New Skies’ government sales and marketing initiatives.

A long-time government sales and marketing executive at Equant, Global One and Sprint, Turner has nearly 20 years of experience in government communications and the information technology marketplace. In his new role, Turner will manage New Skies’ government-related sales and business development activities from the company’s Washington D.C. office.

The U.S. government/military satcom market is currently valued at $400 - $500 million per year and is expected to grow 15 - 20 percent over the next three years. New Skies offers government customers and contractors a high level of satellite experience, expertise, and operational insight to help meet client operational, financial, logistical, and security requirements.

While at Equant and Global One, Turner led both companies’ US-based government sales organizations, where he focused primarily on addressing the international communications needs of federal, state, and local government agencies; multilateral organizations; and systems integrators. Turner joined Sprint’s Government System’s Division in 1988 as federal account manager for the U.S. Air Force. He later became director of sales, civilian agencies and counter-intelligence programs. During his tenure at Sprint, Turner led teams that secured federal and state-level government business valued at over $1 billion.
