  • Vinci rocket engine
Vinci is an advanced expander cycle cryogenic propellant rocket engine and is the first European re-ignitable cryogenic upper-stage engine.
The first, European, re–ignitable cryogenic upper–stage engine, the Vinci, completed its first re–ignition test at Lampoldshausen, the German aerospace research center. Carried out by Snecma and their Space Engines division, this was the first such test of such an engine in Europe and is part of the European Space Agency’s Future Launcher Preparatory Program (FLPP). According to Jacques Serre, the vice president and general manager of this division, the test "marks a major step towards the next upgrade to the Ariane 5 upper stage, and also supports the continuation of this program, which will be submitted for approval at the next ESA ministerial-level meeting in 2008."
