BAIKONUR COSMODROME, April 6, 2007 - Satnews Daily - Senior staff of Telesat Canada are trooping to the Baikonur Cosmodrome for the launch of the company's state-of-the-art Anik F3 satellite.
Telesat's Anik F3 will provide broadcasting and telecommunications capacity, business communications and Internet-based services throughout North America. Anik F3 is Telesat's second European-built satellite. The new spacecraft, based on the E3000 platform manufactured by EADS Astrium, will allow Telesat to fully develop the 118.7degrees WL orbital position and enable the expansion of Telesat's business throughout the Americas.
Along with 24 C-band and 32 Ku-band communications channels, Anik F3 will carry a small Ka-band payload to supplement services now being carried on its sister satellite, Anik F2. The Anik satellites are geostationary communications satellites launched by Telesat Canada for television in Canada. In Inuit Anik means "little brother".
The E3000 platform features a high degree of modularity, which, due to its wide range of configurations, enables it to match mission requirements precisely and to offer operators a comprehensive range of power options.
EADS Astrium is Europe’s leading satellite system specialist.
