French Polynesia Selects SES New Skies for Satellite Internet Trunking

THE HAGUE, March 16, 2007/Satnews Daily/ ― French Polynesia has selected the NSS-5 satellite of SES New Skies, an SES company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG), to provide Internet trunking services to the country’s 118 islands.

The three-year, two transponder contract was signed today in Sydney (Australia) by representatives from the Office des Postes et Telecommunications of French Polynesia and SES New Skies.

NSS-5, positioned at the orbital location of 183° East, is SES New Skies’ principal connectivity satellite for the Pacific Ocean region. The spacecraft is one of the few satellites that can connect North America with all major destinations in the Pacific Rim. It is particularly well suited to provide Internet backbone and trunking services via U.S. West coast  teleports to the far-flung Pacific island archipelago.

Scott Sprague, senior vice president global sales of SES New Skies, said the company is proud to provide unique and well suited satellite capacity the allows the Pacific island community of French Polynesia to fully participate in the Internet age.

SES New Skies owns and operates a global fleet of seven satellites in orbit, with an additional spacecraft under construction (NSS-9) and ground facilities around the world.
