UDcast, Newtec Partner for Mobile TV Distribution

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 13, 2007/Satnews Daily/ ― Europe-based firms Udcast and Newtec have formed a commercial partnership that will provide the growing mobile TV market with a comprehensive solution for the primary distribution of DVB-H signals via satellite. Commercial deployment is expected by the third quarter of this year.

Headquartered in France, Udcast is a leader in providing solutions to enable the delivery of IP television to mobile devices. Newtec, with offices in Belgium, is a leading manufacturer of satellite communication equipment and systems.

The joint system from both firms offers a unique and efficient way of sending national, regional and local channels and advertising to different markets. The solution is based on combining all the content in one single satellite carrier.

The UDcast and Newtec partnership will offer an end-to-end solution for mobile TV from the central play-out up to the remote terrestrial transmission towers. UDcast will provide the equipment and software to encapsulate, multiplex, adapt and filter DVB-H signals.

Newtec’s contribution is focused on its DVB-S2 satellite equipment, integration of all remote functionality in a single unit and the optional satellite equipment for the network management solution.

At the remote side only the relevant channels for each market are sent to the mobile users while synchronization in Single Frequency Networks is maintained.

“Newtec and UDcast are both strong believers in the mobile TV market and in the DVB-H technology in particular. We are also convinced that satellite represents the most efficient way to distribute DVB-H signals in national mobile TV networks,” said Serge Van Herck, Newtec CEO.

“As both Newtec and UDcast are leaders in their respective fields and offer complementary expertise, this partnership will create the optimal and comprehensive commercial solution for mobile operators, broadcasters, integrators and satellite operators who want to deliver mobile TV via DVB-H,” said Didier Tymen, senior vice president and co-founder of UDcast.

UDcast provides DVB-H standard compliant solutions for the delivery of IPTV to mobile devices. The company also provides satellite aware IP appliances that bring terrestrial-like performances and security to broadband satellite links.

A leader in satellite communication, Newtec offers products and solutions such as DVB modulators, Digital TV and radio distribution networks, interactive TV networks and IP broadband access networks to customers across the world.
